Location & Local Information
Horodok in Khmelnytskyi Oblast lies on the Smotrych River, a tributary of the Dniester, flowing through upland terrain. Because of its moderate size and mostly gentle flow, sections of the river near Horodok warm somewhat in summer. In warm months like July and August, shallow, sunlit edges may reach about 22-24 °C, while deeper or shaded reaches probably stay cooler, around 18-20 °C. Early summer (May–June) and after rain, the water is significantly colder, making long swims less comfortable.
Swimming in Horodok is possible, particularly in calm river bends and spots with easy access — where banks slope gently and the current is mild. Locals may use such stretches for dipping, fishing, or leisure by the water. However, caution is wise: the Smotrych features ravine-style banks in places, variable depth, and possible underwater obstacles.
