*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bålsta (in Swedish - Bålsta), Uppsala County, lies on the northern shore of Lake Mälaren and is surrounded by smaller lakes and streams. Water temperatures in these inland water bodies follow a typical central-Sweden pattern: in spring (April–May) surface temperatures often range from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as ice melts, rising in summer (June–August) to roughly 17–24 °C (63–75 °F) in warm spells and occasionally a few degrees higher during heat waves. In autumn (September–November) temperatures usually fall to around 5–15 °C (41–59 °F). During winter many lakes freeze and any remaining open water is close to 0–2 °C (32–36 °F); rivers tend to stay a few degrees colder than still lakes because of flow.
Swimming is commonly allowed in Bålsta at designated beaches and informal shoreline spots under Sweden’s public access traditions, and many locals swim in Mälaren in summer when temperatures are comfortable. Municipal bathing areas may have lifeguards and posted water-quality information in season; swimmers should heed signs, avoid fast or cold river currents, and be cautious outside the warm summer months when low temperatures increase the risk of cold shock. Winter ice swimming occurs but requires proper safety measures and knowledge of local ice conditions.
