*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Orihuela, a municipality in the province of Alicante within the Valencian Community, is surrounded by a mix of Mediterranean coastline, reclaimed wetlands and small inland reservoirs. Water temperatures in the local lakes and lagoons follow a clear seasonal pattern: in winter surface temperatures commonly sit around 10–14 °C (50–57 °F), in spring they rise to roughly 14–20 °C (57–68 °F), summer brings the warmest conditions with 22–28 °C (72–82 °F) in shallow bodies, and autumn sees a gradual fall back to about 16–22 °C (61–72 °F). Shallow salt pans and lagoons warm more quickly in summer but can also cool rapidly at night; deeper reservoirs show smaller daily variation but are generally a few degrees cooler than shallow ponds.
Swimming opportunities depend on the specific water body. Many of the natural lagoons and wetlands around Orihuela are protected or managed for wildlife and therefore prohibit bathing to preserve habitat and maintain water quality; restrictions also reflect safety concerns such as sudden depth changes, currents, or irrigation use. In some non-protected reservoirs swimming may be tolerated locally, but facilities and lifeguard cover are limited, and local regulations or water-quality advisories should be checked before entering the water. For most residents and visitors, supervised coastal beaches remain the recommended option for safe swimming.
