Swimming in such conditions is possible, but for most people, the time spent in the water should be limited to avoid hypothermia. Even experienced swimmers may feel discomfort if they stay in the water for too long. To improve comfort and safety, a wetsuit can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Jonava sits near a number of small lakes and the Neris River, and water temperatures there follow the Baltic inland pattern. In spring the shallower lakes typically warm from about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as air temperatures rise; by midsummer surface temperatures often reach 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), sometimes climbing to 25–26 °C (77–79 °F) in very shallow, sheltered basins. In early autumn temperatures usually fall into the 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) range as cooling and turnover begin, while in winter open water drops toward 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) and many bodies freeze over, leaving only near-zero Celsius conditions under the ice.
Swimming is generally allowed in and around Jonava during the warmer months at designated bathing sites where local authorities monitor water quality and safety; these supervised areas are open because routine testing and lifeguard coverage reduce health and drowning risks. Outside the official swimming season, cooler temperatures, variable visibility, submerged vegetation and occasional poor water quality make informal bathing less advisable. In winter, ice swimming only occurs where organized and inspected conditions permit; otherwise frozen or near-freezing waters present significant hypothermia and safety hazards.
