** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Silistra lies on the lower Danube and is close to several small freshwater bodies, including the protected Srebarna lake a short distance away. Water temperatures in the region vary with the season: in spring the Danube and nearby lakes commonly range from about 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as they recover from winter, in summer surface temperatures typically rise to roughly 20–27 °C (68–81 °F) depending on depth and exposure to sun, in autumn waters cool back to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F), and in winter temperatures can approach freezing, often 0–5 °C (32–41 °F) in cold spells. Shallow, sheltered oxbow lakes and ponds warm more quickly and can be several degrees warmer in summer than the main river channel.
Swimming opportunities depend on the specific waterbody and local rules. Srebarna, as a nature reserve, generally prohibits swimming to protect wildlife and water quality. The Danube in the Silistra area is used for recreation in summer where local beaches or informal spots exist, but swimming there is subject to safety concerns — currents, boat traffic and variable water quality mean some locations are unsuitable or restricted at times. Visitors should heed local signage and municipal guidance; when permitted and during warm months, typical comfortable swimming temperatures are in the low to mid‑20s °C (around 70–80 °F).
