*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Medgidia, in south‑east Romania, sits beside the Danube–Black Sea Canal and a number of small freshwater lakes, ponds and drainage channels typical of the steppe landscape. Seasonal water temperatures in those inland water bodies vary with air temperature and depth: in winter surface temperatures commonly drop to around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), with sections of the canal and shallow ponds sometimes reaching near‑freezing. Spring sees a rise to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as waters warm unevenly. In summer, deeper parts of the canal and larger lakes often stabilize around 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), while shallow, sunlit pits or irrigation pools can warm to about 27–28 °C (81–82 °F). Autumn cooling typically brings temperatures down to roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F).
Swimming opportunities are limited and variable. The Danube–Black Sea Canal is generally not suitable for recreation: navigation, hidden currents, vessel traffic and local regulations make swimming unsafe or prohibited. Some local lakes and former gravel pits are used informally for bathing in warm months, but these spots lack lifeguards and registered water‑quality monitoring, so they carry health and safety risks. For supervised, permitted swimming residents and visitors usually rely on municipal pools or officially designated recreational sites where water quality and safety are controlled.
