Water Temperature Trends
İzmir Province, located on the western coast of Turkey along the Aegean Sea, enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate that significantly influences its coastal water temperatures. During the summer months, from June to September, the water temperature is quite pleasant, ranging from 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F). This makes the sea ideal for swimming, especially for those who prefer warmer water temperatures. The coastline, known for its beautiful beaches, attracts both local and international visitors who flock to the region for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports.
In the autumn months of October and November, the water temperature gradually begins to cool, ranging between 20°C and 24°C (68°F to 75°F). While still warm enough for swimming, the sea becomes less crowded as many visitors depart for other destinations. However, the mild weather and comfortable water temperatures continue to offer enjoyable beach experiences during this time.
During the winter months, from December to February, the water temperature in İzmir drops to around 14°C to 17°C (57°F to 63°F), which is too cool for most people to swim. The region experiences fewer visitors as the weather becomes colder and less inviting for beach activities. As spring approaches, the sea gradually warms up again, with temperatures rising to around 17°C to 20°C (63°F to 68°F) in March and April, marking the return of the swimming season.
