Water Temperature Trends

Artvin Province, located along the northeastern coast of Turkey by the Black Sea, experiences relatively cooler water temperatures compared to other regions along Turkey's coastline. During the summer months, from June to August, the water temperature usually hovers between 18°C and 21°C (64°F to 70°F). While these temperatures are on the cooler side, they are still comfortable for swimming, particularly on warmer summer days. However, the region’s cooler climate and more rugged terrain make it less popular for large beach tourism compared to other coastal areas in Turkey.

As the seasons shift into autumn, the water temperature in Artvin drops to around 14°C to 16°C (57°F to 61°F) in September and October. This drop is noticeable, and although the region still sees some visitors, the cooler waters are less appealing for swimming. By November and December, the water temperature decreases further, typically ranging from 9°C to 12°C (48°F to 54°F), making it quite cold for most beachgoers.

During winter, from December to February, the water temperature along Artvin's coast can fall to as low as 5°C to 7°C (41°F to 45°F), which is much too cold for swimming or water activities. The colder months see very few visitors for beach activities, and the region's coastal waters remain uninviting for recreational use during this period. As spring arrives, temperatures begin to gradually rise, reaching around 8°C to 10°C (46°F to 50°F) by March and April, still on the colder side but signaling the slow return of milder weather in the region.
