The South Aegean region of Greece, encompassing islands like Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, and Naxos, boasts some of the warmest and most inviting waters in the Aegean Sea. During the summer months (June to September), the sea temperatures range between 23–26°C (73–79°F). These warm waters, coupled with the region's picturesque beaches and vibrant coastal scenery, make it an ideal destination for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities.
In spring (April to May) and autumn (October to November), the sea remains relatively warm, with temperatures typically around 20–23°C (68–73°F). These months offer a more tranquil experience for visitors, as the tourist crowds thin out, yet the waters remain pleasant for those seeking a relaxed seaside escape.
Winter (December to March) brings cooler sea temperatures, averaging 16–18°C (61–64°F). While these temperatures might be chilly for some, they are still swimmable for those accustomed to cooler waters. Additionally, the South Aegean islands offer dramatic landscapes and thermal springs in some areas, which can be enjoyed year-round for a unique coastal experience even in the colder months.
