*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Suck flows through Counties Roscommon and Galway before joining the River Shannon near Ballinasloe, winding through a landscape of meadows, bogs, and small villages. Its water temperature reflects the mild inland climate of western Ireland. In winter, the river typically remains around 4–6°C (39–43°F), while in summer it warms to about 15–18°C (59–64°F). On sunny, calm days in July or August, shallow stretches may briefly reach 19°C (66°F), although the deeper sections and shaded banks stay cooler. The river’s steady flow and clean water make it inviting during the warmer months, especially for those who enjoy open-water swimming in natural surroundings.
Swimming in the River Suck is allowed and occasionally practiced in suitable locations, particularly where the current is gentle and access is easy. However, as with many Irish rivers, swimmers should be cautious of varying depths and strong flows after rain. The river’s tranquil stretches make it better suited for short swims or recreational dips rather than long-distance swimming. The Suck Valley Way, a well-known walking route, follows much of the river and offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Nearby towns such as Ballinasloe and Castlerea provide visitor facilities, fishing opportunities, and cultural attractions, adding to the river’s appeal for outdoor recreation.
