*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Boyle River in County Roscommon, like most inland Irish waterways, experiences significant seasonal temperature shifts. In the winter months, from roughly December to February, the water temperature is cold, typically ranging from 7∘C to 8∘C (45∘F to 46∘F). During the peak summer, the river warms up somewhat, with temperatures generally reaching 14∘C to 16∘C (57∘F to 61∘F), which remains cold for casual swimming.
While not designated as a primary bathing spot, swimming is legally permissible in most parts of the river, provided no local restrictions or safety warnings are in place. The main use of the river is for kayaking, canoeing, and angling for brown trout. For safer and more popular swimming opportunities, locals generally head to the nearby Lough Key, which has designated and maintained swimming areas like Doon Shore. Other attractions include the impressive ruins of Boyle Abbey and the historic King House.
