*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Northampton is a major hub on the River Nene, and while the river offers beautiful waterside walks and boating opportunities, its cold temperatures and safety concerns generally deter swimming. Throughout the year, the Nene’s water temperature fluctuates widely, with a seasonal range typical of an English river. Winter temperatures can drop to 3 to 7∘C (37 to 45∘F), making any immersion a risk of cold water shock. Even in the height of summer, the water only moderately warms to an average of 14 to 18∘C (57 to 64∘F).
Unregulated swimming in the River Nene at Northampton is not advised or encouraged. The primary navigation channel sees regular boat traffic, and as with many urban rivers, water quality can be variable. Instead, local enthusiasts for open water swimming are catered for at safer, managed locations nearby, such as Sywell Country Park or the private lakes at Castle Ashby, which offer designated swimming sessions. Away from the water, Northampton offers attractions like the historic 78 Derngate, the only house in England designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery, famous for its extensive collection of shoes.
