*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Erne flows through both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, rising in County Cavan and winding through the lakelands of County Fermanagh before reaching the sea at Donegal Bay. Its temperature varies with the seasons and location, influenced by the many lakes along its course. In winter, the water typically stays between 4–6°C (39–43°F), while in summer it warms to around 15–18°C (59–64°F). During calm, sunny weather in July or August, shallow stretches and sheltered bays—particularly around Upper and Lower Lough Erne—may briefly reach 19°C (66°F). The combination of freshwater inflows and mild Atlantic air keeps the Erne system cool and clear, offering refreshing conditions for swimmers during the warmer months.
Swimming in the River Erne is allowed in several areas, though it is safest where currents are gentle and access is easy, such as along the shores of Lough Erne near Enniskillen. The water quality is generally good, but as the river connects many lakes and channels, local knowledge and care are important. Wetsuits are common outside midsummer, as deeper waters stay cool year-round. The river and its lakes also provide excellent opportunities for boating, kayaking, and fishing. Nearby attractions include Enniskillen Castle, Devenish Island, and the scenic waterways of the Fermanagh Lakelands, known for their quiet natural beauty.
