*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The River Roe, flowing through County Londonderry in Northern Ireland, begins in the Sperrin Mountains and winds northward through Limavady before reaching Lough Foyle and the Atlantic coast. Its temperature reflects the cool maritime climate of the northwest, influenced by both mountain streams and coastal air. In winter, the Roe typically stays between 3 and 5°C (37–41°F), remaining cold and fast-flowing. By spring, it gradually warms to around 8–10°C (46–50°F). During midsummer—particularly in July and August—the water can reach 15–17°C (59–63°F) in calmer, lower sections, while upland areas remain noticeably cooler. As autumn approaches, the river cools again to about 9–11°C (48–52°F), maintaining a clear, refreshing flow throughout most of the year.
Swimming in the River Roe is allowed, and its upper and middle reaches attract some wild swimmers during the warmer months. The water quality is generally good, though the current can be strong after heavy rain. Sheltered pools and shallower bends provide safer entry points for swimming or paddling. Beyond the water, the Roe Valley is known for its natural beauty, with forested trails, waterfalls, and picnic areas. Nearby attractions include Roe Valley Country Park, the town of Limavady, and the dramatic coastal scenery leading toward Benone Strand and the Causeway Coast.
