** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Arda (Bulgarian: Арда) is a southern Bulgarian river whose character changes from cooler, faster mountain stretches to warmer, slower flows in its reservoirs and lowland reaches. Typical seasonal water temperatures vary: in spring (March–May) the river commonly measures about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F), warming in summer (June–August) to roughly 16–24 °C (61–75 °F), with sheltered reservoir bays occasionally reaching around 26 °C (79 °F) in hot spells. Autumn (September–November) temperatures generally fall back to the 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) range, while winter waters near the surface are often close to freezing, around 0–5 °C (32–41 °F), though impounded sections can be a few degrees warmer.
Swimming in the Arda is possible and commonly practiced in summer, particularly in the calmer reservoir areas such as around Kardzhali and Ivaylovgrad where water is warmer and currents are reduced. However, swimming is inadvisable in fast mountain sections, near dam structures, spillways or intake zones because of strong currents, submerged hazards and sudden water releases from hydroelectric operations. Water quality and safety vary locally and lifeguards are usually absent, so bathing is permitted in many places but should be undertaken with caution and local awareness of rules and conditions.
