** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Varbitsa River (Върбица) in Bulgaria shows noticeable variation in water temperature through the year depending on altitude, season and local inflows. Typical measured ranges are roughly 0–6 °C (32–43 °F) in winter, 4–14 °C (39–57 °F) in spring as snowmelt and rains cool the flow, 12–22 °C (54–72 °F) in summer where lowland stretches warm up, and 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) in autumn. Mountain-fed sections remain substantially cooler year-round, while slower, lowland reaches can reach the upper end of the summer range. Sudden weather changes and cold springs can also produce rapid temperature swings.
Swimming in the Varbitsa is commonly possible in suitable reaches, but it is not universally recommended everywhere and often depends on local rules, access and safety. Many locals bathe in warmer lowland pools during summer when temperatures approach the mid-teens to low twenties Celsius (mid-50s to low-70s °F), but mountain sections can be dangerously cold and carry strong currents. Pollution, private land, conservation zones or infrastructure (dams, weirs) may restrict access in places. Visitors should check local signage and water quality reports, avoid unsupervised spots, and be mindful of hypothermia risk even in summer after prolonged immersion.
