** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Woods Canyon Lake is a small, high-elevation lake situated atop the Mogollon Rim in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest of Arizona, sitting at approximately 7,600 feet. Due to this elevation, its water temperature remains cooler than the desert lakes to the south. During the open season, the peak summer surface temperatures are relatively comfortable, generally reaching the mid-20s Celsius, or approximately 25∘C to 28∘C (77∘F to 82∘F). Conversely, the winter months bring cold air temperatures and often snow, causing the water to cool considerably. Temperatures will drop significantly, and the lake often freezes over, with water temperatures in the range of 0∘C to 10∘C (32∘F to 50∘F).
Swimming is generally permitted at Woods Canyon Lake, as the U.S. Forest Service encourages low-impact recreation. However, the lake is primarily known for its excellent trout fishing and boating (with a 10-horsepower limit), not specifically for swimming facilities. There are no designated swim beaches or lifeguards on site, meaning all swimming is at your own risk. Visitors should be aware of the cold water temperatures that persist outside of the warmest summer months. Safety concerns include the presence of non-motorized and slow-moving motorized boat traffic, and caution is necessary due to the rugged nature of the shoreline and potential for unseen debris.
