*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Willow Springs Lake, located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in northeastern Arizona, sits at an elevation of about 7,500 feet on the Mogollon Rim. The high altitude keeps the lake’s water cool throughout the year, creating a distinctly different climate from the state’s desert basins. During winter, surface temperatures typically range from 39 to 45°F (4–7°C), and the lake may partially freeze in very cold months. In spring, as snow melts and air temperatures rise, the water warms to around 50–60°F (10–16°C) by late May. During the summer months, Willow Springs Lake reaches its peak warmth, averaging 65–72°F (18–22°C) in July and August. In autumn, the water cools steadily to around 55–62°F (13–17°C) before dropping back toward winter levels.
Swimming is allowed at Willow Springs Lake, but the cool mountain water limits it mainly to the warmer months and short dips rather than extended swims. The lake’s clear, clean water and scenic pine forest surroundings make it an appealing destination for recreation, though most visitors come for fishing, kayaking, or camping. Even in midsummer, the water remains brisk due to the elevation, so swimmers should be prepared for chilly temperatures. Overall, Willow Springs Lake offers a refreshing and peaceful environment for limited swimming in a high-country setting.
