*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
W. Kerr Scott Reservoir experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In spring the lake commonly ranges from roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) as warming begins; by summer surface temperatures often climb into the 70s and low 80s°F (about 21–28°C), with warmest afternoons sometimes approaching the mid‑80s°F (around 29°C). In fall the water cools back into the mid‑50s to low‑70s°F (13–22°C), and winter surface readings frequently drop into the mid‑30s to upper‑40s°F (2–9°C). Deeper water stays cooler year‑round, and summer stratification can leave lower layers many degrees colder than the surface, so conditions vary with depth, weather and recent inflows.
Swimming at W. Kerr Scott is not supported by lifeguarded, developed beaches in the way public municipal pools are; recreation at the lake is dominated by boating and fishing. People do swim in parts of the reservoir, but it generally carries the usual cautions: no lifeguards, variable water temperatures (including potentially cold, shock‑risk water below the surface), underwater hazards, and boat traffic. Because regulations and posted restrictions can change, visitors should check on‑site signage and local guidance before entering the water and treat swimming there as unguided and at their own risk.
