*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Tionesta Lake, in northwestern Pennsylvania, experiences a wide annual range of surface water temperatures driven by seasonal air temperatures and inflows. In winter the lake commonly approaches freezing, around 32°F (0°C), and may develop ice cover in sustained cold periods. Spring sees a gradual thaw with surface temperatures typically rising into the 40–55°F range (4–13°C). By midsummer surface readings usually reach their peak, often between about 68–78°F (20–26°C) on warm days, and occasionally a bit higher during heat waves. In autumn the water cools again, commonly falling into the 50–65°F band (10–18°C) as air temperatures drop and stratification breaks down.
Swimming at Tionesta Lake is possible but should be approached with caution and in accordance with posted regulations. Many recreational areas permit swimming, yet beaches are generally unsupervised and conditions vary, so swimmers are expected to assume personal responsibility. Authorities may restrict access at times to protect public safety and water quality, and cold or rapidly changing temperatures, submerged hazards, and boat traffic are key reasons for caution. Because water below about 70°F (21°C) can feel uncomfortably cold and increase risk of cold-water shock or hypothermia, the safest swimming months tend to be the warmest part of summer when surface temperatures are highest.
