*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Shubenacadie Grand Lake, the largest lake in the Shubenacadie Canal system in Nova Scotia, is a major freshwater recreational site. Its water temperature experiences a comfortable warming trend during the summer due to the region's climate. In the peak summer months, surface temperatures typically reach a suitable range for swimming, often peaking between 20∘C and 23∘C (68∘F to 73∘F). Conversely, the winter months bring freezing conditions, with temperatures dropping to the range of 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F), and the large lake is entirely frozen over.
Swimming is widely permitted and popular, with designated access at Oakfield Park Beach which is conveniently supervised by a lifeguard throughout the summer season (July 1 to August 31), confirming its status as a safe public swimming spot. However, the lake has faced environmental challenges, as it has been subject to Blue-Green Algae (Cyanobacteria) advisories during recent warm seasons. These advisories strongly advise against swimming in visible blooms due to potential toxins. Swimmers must always check for current water quality advisories, even at supervised beaches, and adhere to all safety warnings.
