** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Dollar Lake, situated within Dollar Lake Provincial Park in Nova Scotia, is a popular freshwater swimming destination. Its water temperature is typical of an inland lake in the Maritime climate, warming significantly during the summer season. In the peak summer months, particularly mid-to-late August, the surface water is usually very comfortable for swimming, often peaking around 22∘C to 24∘C (72∘F to 75∘F), though it can be cooler in early July. In the winter, the water cools dramatically, dropping to the range of 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F), and the lake freezes over.
Swimming is widely permitted and actively encouraged at Dollar Lake. A beautiful sandy beach at the north end of the lake is supervised by the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service during the peak summer season, confirming its status as a designated safe swimming area. However, outside of the marked, supervised area, or outside of the official season, all swimming is strictly at one's own risk. Swimmers should be aware of the rules enforced by lifeguards, such as no diving, and be mindful of high winds which can create offshore currents. The water quality is routinely monitored for E. coli, and advisories are posted if bacterial counts exceed safe limits.
