*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Schroon Lake, located in the Adirondack region of New York, experiences a wide range of water temperatures through the year. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly sit between about 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake thaws and stratification begins. By early summer (June) the surface typically warms to roughly 60–70°F (16–21°C). Peak summer months (July–August) bring the warmest surface readings, often in the 70–75°F range and occasionally reaching 78°F (21–26°C) on very warm afternoons. In fall (September–October) temperatures drop again to about 50–65°F (10–18°C) as cooling and turnover set in. In winter the lake is near freezing, around 32°F (0°C), and commonly sees ice cover, which makes open-water swimming impractical.
Swimming at Schroon Lake is allowed in designated and public areas and is a popular summer activity because summer surface temperatures are generally comfortable for recreational bathing. Local beaches, parks, and some private access points provide safe spots for swimmers, but conditions vary by season and location. Cold spring and fall waters can pose hypothermia risks, and winter ice makes swimming unsafe except for regulated ice-swim events. Visitors should follow posted signage, watch for boat traffic, and check local advisories about water quality and safety before entering the water.
