*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Great Sacandaga Lake in upstate New York experiences a wide range of surface water temperatures through the year. In winter the lake commonly approaches freezing, with surface temperatures around 26–34°F (about −3 to 1°C) and ice forming on much of the basin. Spring sees a gradual warm-up to roughly 38–60°F (3–16°C) as snowmelt and runoff cool the shallows. Peak summer surface temperatures typically run about 65–78°F (18–26°C), and on hot, calm days shallow bays can reach near 80°F (27°C). During fall the water cools again to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C) before the lake refreezes.
Swimming is generally permitted in many parts of the Sacandaga where public beaches or private shorelines provide access, because the lake is managed for multiple recreational uses. However, swimming safety is influenced by seasonal conditions: summer temperatures are most comfortable for swimmers, while cold spring or fall water can cause cold-shock and hypothermia risk. During winter, open-water swimming is unsafe where ice is unstable. Boat traffic, variable depths and currents, and localized restrictions mean swimmers should use designated areas, heed posted rules, and take normal water-safety precautions.
