Pool 7 / Lake Onalaska is a broad backwater of the Mississippi River with fairly variable surface temperatures through the year. In winter surface water often sits near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C). Spring warming typically brings temperatures into the 40–65°F (4–18°C) range as inflows and sun angle increase. Peak summer surface readings in sheltered, shallow bays commonly reach about 70–85°F (21–29°C), though deeper or wind‑exposed areas can be several degrees cooler.
