*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Clendening Lake, a reservoir in eastern Ohio, experiences a wide seasonal swing in surface water temperatures. In winter the surface can approach near freezing, roughly 32–40°F (0–4°C), and waters remain cold through early spring. By late spring temperatures typically rise into the mid-40s to low 60s°F (7–16°C), while summer surface readings commonly range from about 70–80°F (21–27°C), with sheltered shallows occasionally reaching the low 80s (27–28°C) on hot days. In autumn the lake cools again toward roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C). Deeper water stays noticeably colder year-round, so diving or swimming below the surface can expose visitors to sudden cold-water conditions even in summer.
Swimming at Clendening Lake is generally possible, but it is governed by local rules and practical safety considerations. Many public areas are unsupervised, so swimming is typically at your own risk; visitors should obey posted signs, avoid boat traffic zones, and be aware of hazards such as steep drop-offs, submerged structures, or occasional algal or water-quality advisories that can lead to temporary closures. Because of the lake’s variable temperatures and depth, swimmers should take precautions against cold-water shock and follow any guidance from park managers or the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers responsible for the reservoir.
