Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Whittington is a large, natural oxbow lake primarily located on the border of Mississippi and Desha County, Arkansas, and experiences water temperatures typical of the Delta region's climate. As a shallow oxbow, its water temperature shifts rapidly with the air temperature. In the mild winter months, the surface temperature would typically be cool, ranging from the 40s to low 50s F (4∘C to 13∘C). During the peak summer season (July and August), the lake warms significantly, with surface temperatures often reaching a very comfortable and warm range, peaking between 75∘F and 85∘F (24∘C to 29∘C).
Swimming is generally permitted in Lake Whittington, as the lake is utilized for various recreational activities, including boating and fishing. However, the lake is managed primarily by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks for its fisheries. As an oxbow lake with a connection to the Mississippi River, it does not feature any designated or supervised public swimming beaches with lifeguards. Therefore, all swimming is undertaken strictly at one's own risk. Swimmers should be mindful of the heavy boat traffic related to fishing and potential water quality concerns associated with its connection to the river system and agricultural runoff.
