** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years

*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast

Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.

Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information

Lake Tuz in Aksaray Province (Tuz Gölü) is a shallow, highly saline lake whose water temperature varies strongly with the seasons and with how much water remains in the basin. In winter months surface temperatures commonly sit near freezing to around 0–10 °C (32–50 °F), while spring sees a gradual warming to roughly 8–18 °C (46–64 °F). In summer, when the lake is shallow or partly evaporated, surface temperatures can rise quickly and commonly range between 20–35 °C (68–95 °F), though exposed salt pans can be much hotter. Autumn cooling typically brings temperatures down again to about 12–22 °C (54–72 °F). Because the lake is generally very shallow, sunlight heats the water rapidly in warm months and it cools fast in colder months, producing wide short‑term swings.

Swimming in Lake Tuz is generally not recommended and in many areas effectively discouraged or restricted. The extreme salinity increases buoyancy but can cause significant skin and eye irritation and can damage clothing and footwear; large stretches of the lake are covered by hard salt crusts or completely dry in summer, making immersion impossible. Parts of the lake and its surroundings are protected for conservation and salt production, so access is sometimes limited; visitors more commonly wade briefly at margins or take photographs rather than swim.
