*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Moultrie, a large reservoir in South Carolina, experiences a wide annual swing in surface water temperatures. In winter months the surface commonly falls into the 40s–50s °F (about 4–13 °C). Spring sees a gradual rise into the mid-50s to low 70s °F (13–21 °C) as air temperatures warm, while summer surface values frequently reach the mid-70s to mid-80s °F and can peak into the high 80s or low 90s °F (approximately 24–32 °C, occasionally up to ~33 °C) on warm spells. In autumn the water cools back toward the 60s–70s °F range (16–24 °C). These ranges vary with depth, weather patterns, inflows, and time of day, so swimmers can encounter noticeably different conditions at different spots or times.
Swimming is generally permitted in and around Lake Moultrie, particularly during the warmer months when surface temperatures are most comfortable. However, swimming is often unmanaged and can be restricted at specific shorelines because of boat traffic, submerged hazards, and occasional water-quality advisories such as algal blooms. Cold-season swimming carries a notable hypothermia risk when water temperatures fall below about 60 °F (15–16 °C), so most people choose to swim in late spring through early fall. Using designated recreational areas and checking local notices improves safety.
