** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lago di Montespluga is a small high‑altitude reservoir tucked near the Passo dello Spluga in Lombardy, sitting at around 1,900 meters above sea level. Because of its elevation and alpine setting, water temperatures remain cool year‑round. In winter (December–February) the surface often sits at or just above freezing, roughly 0–3 °C (32–37 °F). Spring (March–May) sees gradual warming to about 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) as snowmelt feeds the lake. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest conditions, typically between 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) on the surface in sunny spells, though deeper water stays markedly colder. In autumn (September–November) temperatures fall back toward 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) before winter freeze.
Swimming at Lago di Montespluga is possible but uncommon and generally not recommended for casual bathing. There are no formal beaches, lifeguards, or facilities, and the cold temperatures pose a real risk of cold‑water shock and hypothermia even in summer. Additionally, as a reservoir it can be subject to sudden water level changes and local management restrictions, and shore access can be steep or rocky. Some experienced cold‑water swimmers or brief dippers may enter during the warmest weeks, but visitors should heed signage, local advice, and exercise caution.
