Water Temperature: Daily Trends, Historical Records, and Forecast
❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 47°F (8°C) to 50°F (10°C). This is still cool water, suitable only for experienced swimmers or those accustomed to cold water. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Albigna Lake is a high-altitude reservoir in the Val Bregaglia, surrounded by steep granite walls and glaciers. Because it lies at around 2,150 m above sea level, water temperatures remain cold throughout the year. In winter the lake is frozen for long periods, with water temperatures near 0 °C (32 °F). After ice melt in late spring, temperatures usually stay around 4–6 °C (39–43 °F). During the short alpine summer, typically in July and August, surface temperatures may rise to about 8–12 °C (46–54 °F) on sunny days, before cooling again quickly in early autumn to below 8 °C (46 °F).
Swimming is not officially prohibited, but it is generally uncommon and not recommended for casual swimmers. The lake is primarily used for hydropower and has very cold water, sudden depth changes, and rapidly changing mountain weather. Only experienced cold-water swimmers with proper preparation might consider a brief dip in mid-summer. For most visitors, Albigna Lake is better enjoyed for hiking, photography, and its dramatic alpine setting rather than for swimming.
