*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Lake Maggiore is one of the warmest large lakes connected to Switzerland, stretching along the southern Alps and benefiting from a mild, almost Mediterranean climate. Water temperature changes smoothly through the year thanks to the lake’s great depth. In winter, surface temperatures usually stay around 6–8 °C (43–46 °F). During spring, the lake warms steadily to about 14–18 °C (57–64 °F). Summer brings the most comfortable conditions, with July and August typically reaching 22–26 °C (72–79 °F), and during heatwaves occasionally around 27 °C (81 °F). In autumn, the lake cools slowly and often remains above 18 °C (64 °F) well into October.
Swimming in Lake Maggiore is fully allowed and very popular. The water quality is generally high, and the calm conditions along many shores make it suitable for recreational swimming. Numerous beaches and lakeside access points support bathing across the season. Thanks to its thermal stability, the swimming season is longer than at most Alpine lakes, making Lake Maggiore attractive from late spring through early autumn.
