** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Lake Lugano lies in southern Switzerland and northern Italy, surrounded by steep hills and benefiting from a mild, almost Mediterranean climate. Water temperature changes gradually through the year. In winter, surface temperatures usually remain around 6–8 °C (43–46 °F). During spring, the lake warms steadily to about 14–18 °C (57–64 °F). Summer brings the warmest conditions: in July and August, temperatures commonly range from 22–26 °C (72–79 °F), with short peaks near 27 °C (81 °F) during heatwaves. In autumn, the lake cools slowly and often stays above 18 °C (64 °F) into October.
Swimming in Lake Lugano is fully allowed and very popular. Water quality is generally good, and many public lidos, beaches, and easy shoreline access points support recreational swimming. The lake’s depth helps it retain warmth, extending the swimming season beyond midsummer. Summer conditions are comfortable for all swimmers, while late spring and early autumn are suitable for those who tolerate slightly cooler water.
