** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Khozapini, known in Turkish as Aktaş Gölü, sits at high elevation on the Turkey–Georgia frontier near Ardahan. Because of its altitude and mountain-fed inflows, surface water remains cold for most of the year. In winter months the lake commonly freezes or has surface temperatures close to 0 °C (32 °F). Spring thaw pushes surface temperatures into the low single digits, typically around 1–8 °C (34–46 °F). In the brief summer period, surface temperatures may rise to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) at warmest, with late summer sometimes showing slightly higher localized readings in sheltered bays. Autumn cools the water back toward the single digits, usually 4–10 °C (39–50 °F). Weather, wind and snowmelt timing cause notable year-to-year variation.
Swimming at Aktaş Gölü is uncommon and generally not recommended for casual recreation. The cold temperatures even in summer pose hypothermia risk, and there are no established beaches, lifeguards or rescue services. Additionally, because the lake straddles an international border, access can be subject to regulations and occasional restrictions; visitors should check local rules before entering the water. Locals sometimes wade or take brief dips during warm spells, but most people appreciate the lake for scenery, birdlife and hiking rather than prolonged swimming.
