*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake George in Minnesota experiences a typical northern-lake thermal pattern. During winter the surface is at or just below freezing, around 32°F (0°C) where ice often forms, and under-ice water can be in the low 30s °F (0–2 °C). Spring brings a pronounced warming from roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) as ice melts and the lake mixes. Peak summer surface temperatures commonly reach the 70s to low 80s °F (21–28 °C) on warm days; shallow bays may warm toward the mid-80s °F (29–30 °C) while deeper areas remain several degrees cooler. In autumn the lake cools again, typically falling through the 60s and 50s °F (15–10 °C) into the 40s °F (4–9 °C) before ice forms.
Swimming at Lake George is generally permitted when conditions are safe and the surface is ice-free. Recreational swimming is most comfortable in summer when surface temperatures are in the 70–80s °F (21–28 °C). Users should avoid swimming during ice-on periods, during spring thaw when cold water and weak ice are hazardous, or when advisories for bacteria or harmful algal blooms are posted. As with any lake, shoreline access, presence of lifeguards, and local rules vary, so swimmers should follow posted guidance and exercise standard water-safety precautions.
