*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Blue Lake in Minnesota follows the typical seasonal pattern of small temperate lakes. Surface temperatures are usually at or just below freezing in winter when the lake is ice-covered, around 32°F (0°C) or lower. In spring the water warms slowly, commonly ranging from roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as ice melts and runoff cools the surface. Summer brings the warmest conditions: typical daytime surface temperatures are often between 65–80°F (18–27°C), and during warm spells can briefly reach the low 80s°F (around 28–29°C). By fall the surface cools again toward roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C). Deeper water remains noticeably cooler year-round, and thermal stratification in summer means temperatures drop quickly below the upper layer.
Swimming is generally permitted when the lake is ice-free, and many people swim in the warmer months when surface temperatures are comfortable. Local authorities or lake associations may post advisories or restrict access for safety or health reasons, for example during harmful algal blooms, high bacteria counts after heavy rains, or when ice makes conditions unsafe. Cold shock is a hazard in spring and late fall when water is chilly, and swimmers should heed posted signs, use designated beaches or boat launches, and check current local water-quality and safety information before entering the lake.
