** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Casitas’ surface water temperatures vary with season, weather and depth, so numbers are approximate. In winter the lake commonly registers in the upper 40s to mid‑50s °F (about 9–13 °C). Spring sees a gradual rise into the mid‑50s to mid‑60s °F (13–18 °C) as air temperatures warm. By summer surface temperatures often reach the mid‑60s to high‑70s °F (roughly 18–26 °C) and can climb higher during prolonged heat spells, while autumn typically brings cooling back toward the 60s °F (about 16–20 °C). Deeper water remains cooler year‑round, and localized conditions such as inflows, wind and shading can produce significant short‑term variation.
Despite summer temperatures that in many years would be pleasant for swimming, Lake Casitas is managed as a municipal water supply and for safety reasons swimming in the reservoir is generally not allowed. The restriction helps protect drinking water quality and reduces risks associated with boat traffic and variable depths or submerged hazards. Visitors can participate in permitted boating, fishing and shoreline recreation, and on occasion organized aquatic events may be approved under strict controls, but casual open-water swimming is typically prohibited to safeguard both public health and the reservoir’s primary purpose.
