*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lopez Lake on California’s Central Coast tends to run cool for much of the year because it is a reservoir fed by seasonal runoff and subjected to coastal-influenced temperatures. Typical surface temperatures in winter and early spring commonly range from about 45–58°F (7–14°C). By late spring and into early summer the water usually warms to roughly 50–65°F (10–18°C), and peak summer surface readings often sit between 65–78°F (18–26°C), sometimes higher in heat waves. In autumn the lake typically cools again toward the 60–70°F (16–21°C) band as air temperatures fall and inflow patterns change. Deeper water remains appreciably colder year-round.
Swimming at Lopez Lake is permitted in designated recreational areas when conditions and county regulations allow, because the lake is managed for multiple uses including recreation. Access and use can be restricted at times for safety reasons (low water levels, strong currents near inlets, or lack of lifeguards), for water quality concerns such as algal blooms, or to protect drinking-water operations and infrastructure. Visitors are advised to check current park notices and follow posted rules; the cool nature of the reservoir also means swimmers should be mindful of cold-water effects and take appropriate precautions.
