Lago Rosa, officially Laguna Salada de Torrevieja in the Valencian Community, is a shallow, highly saline salt pan whose pink tones and high salt content affect both buoyancy and water temperature. Because the lagoon is shallow and receives a lot of sunlight, surface temperatures tend to be higher than nearby sea waters: typical seasonal ranges are roughly 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in winter, 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) in spring, 22–30 °C (72–86 °F) in summer, and 16–22 °C (61–72 °F) in autumn. Local conditions, recent rainfall, and salt concentration can cause noticeable day-to-day variation, and in very hot periods the shallow surface can warm above the typical summer range.

Swimming and bathing at Laguna Salada de Torrevieja are subject to restrictions because the lagoons form part of a protected natural area and because the extreme salinity can be irritating to eyes and skin.
