Location & Local Information

The Embalse de Argos is a reservoir located in the Region of Murcia, built on the Río Argos which is a tributary of the Segura. Because it lies inland and is used for water regulation, its water temperature is influenced by the Mediterranean-climate of the area but also by its depth and the regulation of inflows and outflows. In winter the surface water may lie around 8–12 °C, in spring warms to about 14–18 °C, during the height of summer it might reach 20–24 °C in shallow parts on sunny days, and in autumn it gradually cools down again to around 12–16 °C.

Swimming in Embalse de Argos is possible in principle, particularly when the water is at its warmest in summer, but it is not widely promoted as a typical recreational bathing lake. Because it is primarily a regulated reservoir rather than a purpose-built swim spot, conditions such as depth, water clarity, changing levels and safety need to be considered.
