Lac des Dix is a large artificial reservoir located in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, at an altitude of 2,364 meters (7,756 feet). It was created by the Grande Dixence Dam, one of the tallest gravity dams in the world. The lake is primarily used for hydroelectric power generation, collecting meltwater from the surrounding glaciers. Surrounded by high alpine peaks, Lac des Dix offers breathtaking scenery and is popular among hikers. Due to its high altitude, the water temperature in Lac des Dix remains cold throughout the year, ranging from 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F) during the summer months.
