Lac des Toules is a high-altitude reservoir located in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, near the Grand Saint Bernard Pass, at an altitude of 1,810 meters (5,938 feet). The lake was created by the construction of a dam and is used for hydroelectric power generation. Surrounded by beautiful alpine landscapes, Lac des Toules is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Due to its high altitude, the water temperature remains cold throughout the year, ranging between 4°C and 10°C (39°F to 50°F) during the summer months, and the lake may freeze in winter.
