*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Kaw Lake’s surface water temperatures follow Oklahoma’s seasonal pattern and vary with weather, depth and location within the reservoir. In winter the lake typically cools to roughly 33–45°F (1–7°C), while spring sees a gradual rise into the range of about 50–65°F (10–18°C). Summer surface temperatures are most comfortable for recreational swimming, often reaching approximately 75–85°F (24–29°C) on warm days, and into early fall the water commonly holds between 55–70°F (13–21°C). Short-term swings are common after cold fronts or heat waves, and deeper or shaded areas will remain cooler than sun-exposed shallows.
Swimming at Kaw Lake is generally permitted in recreational areas managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and at local parks and campgrounds, but it is typically “swim at your own risk” because lifeguards are not usually provided. Conditions such as boat traffic, currents near inlets, submerged hazards, fluctuating water levels and occasional algal blooms can affect safety and water quality, so visitors are advised to use designated swimming spots, monitor posted advisories, and exercise caution. The warmer summer temperatures make swimming more pleasant, whereas colder seasons are less suitable for prolonged immersion.
