** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Oologah, a reservoir in northeastern Oklahoma, experiences pronounced seasonal shifts in surface water temperature. In summer the surface commonly warms into the mid-70s to mid-80s °F (about 24–29 °C) and can occasionally reach the upper 80s °F (around 30–32 °C) in shallow, sheltered bays. Spring temperatures typically rise from roughly 50–70 °F (10–21 °C) as the season progresses, while autumn sees cooling into the mid-50s to mid-70s °F (13–24 °C). Winter surface readings often fall into the upper 30s to low 50s °F (about 3–11 °C), with colder episodes lowering temperatures further in some years. These ranges reflect typical surface conditions; deeper water remains cooler year-round.
Swimming is permitted in recreational areas around Oologah but conditions vary by site and season. Designated swim areas at parks and marinas are intended for swimming, although many do not have lifeguards and users should heed posted warnings and water-quality advisories when issued. Water clarity, boat traffic, submerged structures, and rapid temperature changes—especially near inlets and deeper channels—affect safety and comfort. Consequently, most people swim there from late spring through early fall when surface temperatures are pleasantly warm, while colder months are generally unsuitable for casual swimming without thermal protection.
