Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating. *** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Copan Lake in northeastern Oklahoma experiences noticeable seasonal swings in water temperature typical of inland reservoirs. During winter the surface often cools to roughly 35–50°F (2–10°C). Spring sees a steady rise as waters warm into the 50–70°F range (10–21°C). Peak summer temperatures commonly reach about 75–90°F (24–32°C) in shallower, sun-exposed coves, while early fall typically brings cooling back into the 60–75°F band (15–24°C). Local conditions such as recent weather, depth, and inflow from tributaries can shift these numbers, with deeper basins staying cooler and shallow bays heating faster on hot, calm days.
Swimming at Copan Lake is generally permitted and the lake is used for recreational bathing by locals, but there are caveats. There are few if any supervised swim beaches and lifeguards are not provided, so swimming is at visitors’ own risk. Water levels, sudden drop-offs, submerged hazards, boat traffic and occasional water-quality advisories can affect safety and suitability for swimming, so it’s important to follow posted signs and any guidance from the managing agency or local authorities. Many people choose to swim in sheltered coves during warm months when surface temperatures are most comfortable.
