** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sooner Lake is a relatively shallow cooling reservoir, so its surface temperatures swing with the seasons but often run warmer than a typical natural lake. In winter you can expect surface readings commonly around 40–55°F (4–13°C). Spring brings warming into roughly 55–70°F (13–21°C). Summer surface temperatures typically reach about 75–90°F (24–32°C), and in warm spells shallow areas can climb higher. Fall temperatures generally fall back to the 60–75°F (16–24°C) range. Because the lake was built to serve as a power-plant cooling source, areas near discharge points can be noticeably warmer year-round — often 10–15°F (roughly 6–8°C) above ambient lake temperatures.
Swimming at Sooner Lake is possible in recreational areas, but access and safety are governed by posted rules and seasonal advisories. Some shorelines and the immediate vicinity of plant intakes and discharge channels are closed to swimmers for safety and operational reasons, and there are hazards such as submerged structures, sudden depth changes and limited lifeguard coverage. Water quality and temperature conditions can change quickly, so swimmers are advised to follow on-site signage, use designated swim spots if provided, and check with local management before entering the water.
