*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
North Sterling Reservoir, located within North Sterling State Park on the Colorado plains, experiences a wide seasonal swing in surface water temperatures. In late spring (March–May) temperatures typically run from about 35–55°F (2–13°C) as snowmelt and cool air persist. Summer (June–August) brings the warmest waters, often in the range of 65–75°F (18–24°C) on warm afternoons, though cooler mornings and windy conditions can lower surface readings. Early fall (September–November) usually sees temperatures decline to roughly 45–60°F (7–16°C) as air temperatures fall. In winter (December–February) the reservoir can approach freezing, with surface temperatures near 32–40°F (0–4°C) and ice cover possible in sustained cold.
Swimming is generally permitted at the reservoir because it is managed for multiple recreational uses, but opportunities are seasonal and conditional. The most inviting swimming is in summer when surface temperatures reach the upper teens to mid-twenties Celsius; outside that window water is cold and potentially hazardous. There are typically no lifeguards, water quality and fluctuating water levels can affect safety, and ice in winter makes swimming unsafe. Visitors should follow park guidance and exercise caution when entering the water.
