*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Grayson Lake in northeastern Kentucky typically follows the seasonal patterns of temperate reservoirs, with surface water coolest in winter and warmest in summer. Typical winter surface temperatures are often in the upper 30s to mid 40s °F (about 3–7 °C). In spring the lake warms through the 50s and 60s °F (10–18 °C) as air temperatures rise and stratification begins. Summer surface temperatures commonly reach the low 70s to mid 80s °F (21–29 °C), which is when the water is most comfortable for swimming. During fall the lake cools back into the 50s–60s °F (13–18 °C) range as conditions shift toward turnover and colder weather.
Swimming is allowed at Grayson Lake in areas managed by the state park and local authorities, and visitors often swim when surface temperatures are in the 70s °F (around 21 °C) or higher. Access typically occurs at designated beach or recreation sites rather than everywhere along the shoreline, both for safety and water-quality reasons. Swimmers should be aware of common reservoir hazards such as changing water levels, submerged objects, boat traffic and the general absence of lifeguards; these factors influence where and when swimming is recommended even though it is permitted in managed areas.
