✅ As of today, the minimum water temperature is above 82°F (28°C). This is very warm water, which may feel almost hot to most people. Swimming in such conditions is perfect for those seeking relaxation and comfort in the water. These waters are often preferred for relaxation in hot weather, as the water temperature does not cool the body significantly. However, it is important to remember that in such warm waters, caution is necessary, as prolonged exposure without rest can lead to overheating. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. ** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Dewey Lake in eastern Kentucky experiences typical temperate-lake seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In winter the lake commonly cools to roughly 35–45°F (2–7°C) near the surface; spring brings a steady rise toward about 45–68°F (7–20°C) as air temperatures warm. By midsummer the upper layers often reach the most comfortable levels for recreation, frequently in the range of about 70–82°F (21–28°C), while autumn sees a gradual decline back toward roughly 55–70°F (13–21°C). Actual temperatures vary with recent weather, wind, depth and inflows, so the surface can warm or cool more quickly than deeper water and can show noticeable day-to-day change.
Swimming at Dewey Lake is generally allowed in accordance with public recreation rules and in areas designated for bathing by managing authorities, because the lake is maintained for multiple recreational uses. Many visitors swim in the late spring through early fall when surface temperatures are warmest, but there are usually no lifeguards at natural lake sites, and conditions such as sudden drop-offs, boat traffic, water-quality advisories or algal blooms can affect safety. Swimmers should choose marked swimming areas where available, check local notices about water quality, and exercise usual precautions when entering open water.
