** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Embalse García de Sola, on the Guadiana in Extremadura, experiences marked seasonal variation in surface water temperature. In summer (June–September) surface temperatures commonly range from about 22–28 °C (72–82 °F), with the warmest readings in July and August on shallow bays. Late spring and early autumn typically see 16–22 °C (61–72 °F), while winter surface temperatures often fall to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), colder below the thermocline in deeper parts. Because it is a reservoir, temperatures can shift relatively quickly with inflows, wind and reservoir level changes; deeper water remains significantly colder than the surface even in summer.
Swimming is practiced at García de Sola, especially in summer, but it is not universally regulated in the same way as designated municipal beaches. Some shore areas and informal beaches are popular for bathing and water sports, yet permission and safety depend on local rules, water quality, signage and the reservoir authority’s guidelines. Potential hazards include sudden depth changes, boat traffic, submerged structures and variable water quality after heavy rains, so swimmers should follow posted restrictions, use designated bathing zones when available, and exercise caution. Local information should be checked before entering the water.
